This one Scarves to Knit by well known Knitting teacher and pattern designer, Monica Russell has 20 gorgeous scarf designs which are quick to knit for beginners to more advance knitters. The textures and colours of the scarves in the patterns are fabulous from lacy delicate one colour scarves to chunky multi coloured knits. The pattern and instructions are clearly written and there is a chart for those that include colour work as this is easier to follow. The book is very good value at only £6.99 and has a sturdy hardcover, but is small enough to tuck into a handbag or small knitting bag for knitting on the go. Perfect to take on a holiday.

* Jayne from Half Yard Sewing Club *Another great edition to the "20" books. Produced as a small hardback book, quality paper and ink used for you to appreciate 20 stunning scarves to knit using a variety of yarn weights and techniques. These stylish scarves are beautifully colour photographed to draw you in to clear instructions on the opposite page. Some projects are easier than others which include charts and something to aspire to. This book does not teach you how to knit but begins with the tools and gauge/tension tips for you to start the first simple scarf. Its hard to choose a favourite to make first.
* Sandra from Half Yard Sewing Club *If you love knitting, you’ll love this book of scarves. This little book has 20 knitting patterns with full instructions along with knitting charts, and lets you know all you will need for each scarf. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, these knits will appeal to any knitter. Some are very quick knits, and some may take a little longer, but all are beautiful. I felt like getting my knitting needles out as soon as I had read this book. This book is such a good value, it comes with a hard back cover and strong pages. For £6.99 it is a must have.
* Blodwen from Half Yard Sewing Club *20 scarves to Knit by Monica Russel features a diverse collection of patterns that cater to knitters of all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner eager to dive into the world of knitting or an experienced knitter looking for ideas there’s something for everyone. Each scarf showcases unique techniques and styles, there are Fair Isle, Stripes, Lace, Ribs and Cable, Chevrons and a double thickness scarf.
The book cover is hard back and it’s a handy 6 x 8½ inch size with just 64 pages, so the font isn’t large but it’s crisp and clear. The first few pages cover Materials & Tools, Tension/Gauge and Abbreviations used (be sure to read this before you get going.) Knitting needle sizes are provided in UK, US and millimetres.
So from simple garter stitch to more intricate cables and lacework, each project has a title such as “Simple” a beginner friendly chunky yarn scarf using only garter stitch and “Play Textures” a more involved creation made up of 10 sections each using a different pattern, recommended in variegated yarn to showcase the style.
Knitting instructions are concise with a bright clear photograph, so you know exactly what you’re aiming to achieve, whilst showcasing the texture and drape of the finished item. Simple directions and helpful charts to guide knitters through the process accompany patterns.
The variety of scarf patterns in 20 Scarves to Knit makes this book a good choice. Its mix of unisex styles and skill levels makes it a great addition to any knitter’s library.
When finished each pattern asks the knitter to “Block the scarf …” - there is little information about how to block a piece of knitting in the Materials & Tools chapter so, if not familiar with this, the user may have to seek out this technique from another resource.
* Juliet from Half Yard Sewing Club *A variety of lovely designs by Monica Russel to knit. Opportunities to create wonderful gifts or indulge yourself with one of 20 designs. There are scarves for all knitting abilities. Monica gives easily understood instructions with beautiful colour pictures. She suggests that knitters can change yarns and colours to suit the different seasons so knitting these scarves can be completed all year round.
