Cookie! (Book 3): Cookie and the Most Mysterious Mystery in the World cover

In her third adventure, Cookie finds mysteries everywhere - but can she solve them, and save the science show?

Hurray, Cookie's Nani is coming to stay from Bangladesh! But she doesn't speak English and Cookie is the only one in the family who doesn't speak Bengali. Luckily, science-mad Cookie realises that her coding lessons at school might help her crack the language code and help her bond with Nani.

Other mysteries are harder to solve, though - like, why is Jake's mum acting so weird? Who is the mystery gamer who keeps levelling-up in Cookie's computer game? And who is the Woodburn Hacker, who keeps posting teachers' secrets on the school website? Why does it look like it might be Cookie herself?

Can Cookie solve these mysteries, clear her name and save the science show?

"Cookie! ...and the MOST MYSTERIOUS MYSTERY in the World" is the third in the series of Cookie! books by ex-Blue Peter presenter & author, #konniehuq (published by Piccadilly Press).
This third book tells how the series protagonist, Cookie, a London-based girl from a Bangladeshi family & background, narrates her way through trying to solve a series of mysteries. The burning question is: WHO hacked the school website to share lots of teacher secrets online, & WHY?! Add to this an even greater challenge - learning how to communicate with her 'Nani' - her Grandmother, who comes to stay with the family from Bangladesh. Nani does not speak English & Cookie does not speak Bengali, so Cookie learns how to use her coding lessons at school to help her crack her language barrier with Nani. Can Cookie solve these mysteries & complete other challenges along the way, including saving the school science show? You MUST read to find out!
The book is written beautifully from Cookie's view point, & one feels sure that Huq has written from her own childhood experiences or memories in many places. Despite the fact that this is the 3rd in the Cookie! series, my children soon got to grips with who the main characters were & were up to speed pretty much immediately with the storyline. My two older children (both boys, ages 10 & 12) really enjoyed reading the story & were utterly spellbound by the Bengali alphabet illustrations in particular. Both agreed that they loved the illustration throughout the book & found it hilarious in many parts. I must admit that my 12 year old picked it up, became transfixed, & didn't put it down until he had finished - all in one evening. I think this speaks for itself!
If you want to add a truly lovely story with an entirely amusing and wholly admirable mini-hero(ine) to your young person's stocking this #Christmas, I would wholly recommend this lovely book. I've already been asked for the other books in the series, so guess what my mini reviewers will be getting?!
Recommended for ages 7-11, RRP: £10.99, available from all good booksellers & online.
