Woodland Magic 2: Deer in Danger cover

The second story in an illustrated magical adventure series from the bestselling author of the Unicorn Academy, brimming with drama and an environmental theme.

The Keepers are a secretive tribe of little people who live in the middle of Whispering Woods, caring for the countryside and rewilding it when humans (or Ruffins as they know them) are careless with it.

Young Keepers Cora and Jax are trainees who need to prove themselves or risk being sent back to school. Intent on their task of building a hedgehog highway by making holes at the bottom of fences on a new housing estate, they come upon a deer trapped in the foundations of a building site. Their woodland magic isn't strong enough to help the deer escape, but they will not be able to complete their task if they try to get help for the deer.

A brilliant new magical series perfect for 6-8 year olds combining animal rescue, nature conservation and adventure.

An exciting story in the Woodland Magic series in which the tiny 'Nature Keepers' work together to rescue a trapped deer.
Deer in Danger is part of the Woodland Magic series. Nature Keepers are tiny 'fairy' like characters who work hard to protect the environment and care for its wildlife. Most of their problems are caused by the 'Ruffians' who we discover are the 'humans'! Cora and Jaz are trainee Keepers and are hoping to become fully qualified. Whilst making hedgehog highways they encounter a trapped deer and have to work out how to save him. This is not easy as they are so tiny. The Keepers are resourceful and work as a team using 'natural' elements to help them. The story is exciting and full of humour. Kay Riddell's charming illustrations bring the story alive.
This is a story for early readers of about six upwards. There is magic in the descriptions of the lives of the Keepers. Seeds, flowers, feathers, cobwebs are presented in detail and these natural items provided everything that the Keepers need to live. The messages are strong, about protecting our environment and ensuring that all creatures are able to live without the impact of 'Ruffian' expansion.
Newly independent readers will enjoy following the antics of the Keepers throughout the series and children will also enjoy hearing the stories read aloud. These are books that would be a valuable asset to any library.
