Media and Politics in Kurdistan cover

Media and Politics in Kurdistan studies the relationship between the media and politics in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). KRI is approached as a case study, as an example of the struggle between authoritarian and democratization efforts at the same time. The book contributes towards understanding the dynamics of the media systems in the KRI and attempts to participate in the theoretical discussion of media and politics in this region. The research outcomes show which parts of the press, how many of them and for what length of time the press in the KRI has been owned/controlled by political parties. This book also studies the system of political parties and particularly as related to the press.

“Media and Politics in Kurdistan: How Politics and Media Are Locked in an Embrace is the first extensive and fascinating study on the corporation of the journalists and the relationship between media, political parties, finance, and intellectual microcosm in Iraqi Kurdistan, ‘a state-in-building.’” -- Hamit Bozarslan, School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris
“Situated at the nexus between media and politics, Mohammaedali Yaseen Taha's book Media and Politics in Kurdistan: How Politics and Media are Locked in an Embrace is a significant contribution toward understanding the dynamics of the media system and the relationship between the media and politics in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. To my knowledge, this empirically-rich book is the first comprehensive work is ever written on this matter. An important and timely contribution, especially for those interested in Kurdish politics.” -- Amjed Rasheed, Durham University
