This insightful book, Revolting Women, addresses the challenges faced by professional women over 50 and how businesses can benefit from their talents.
In Revolting Women, Dr. Lucy Ryan explores the untapped potential of professional women over 50, who are often overlooked in corporate environments. These women face a unique set of challenges, including ageism and gender bias, which can lead to their departure from traditional career paths. The book highlights how businesses can not only retain this invaluable talent pool but also benefit from their extensive experience, wisdom, and ambition. By addressing the misconceptions surrounding midlife women, Dr. Ryan advocates for a shift in corporate culture that values diversity and inclusion.
Through thorough research and compelling anecdotes, Revolting Women reveals that the narrative of declining motivation and energy in midlife women is fundamentally flawed. Instead, Dr. Ryan presents evidence showing that these women possess a wealth of knowledge and drive that can significantly contribute to an organization’s success. The book offers practical strategies for businesses to understand the unique challenges faced by women over 50 and implement simple changes that can foster an inclusive environment.
Dr. Lucy Ryan, a leadership coach and consultant, draws from her own research to empower companies to embrace this demographic. With her advocacy for women's professional development, she encourages organizations to recognize the transformative potential of women over 50. Revolting Women is not just a call to action for businesses; it’s a celebration of the resilience and capability of women who refuse to be sidelined in their careers.
This book is based on research in the UK but has application for the United States too. The author talked in depth to women executives to blow up the false narratives on why women leave organizations at the top of their game. Often the mythology is that women want freedom to strike out on their own or are in the "sandwich" generation and need to take care of children and aging parents. What organizations don't look at typically are the systemic challenges in organizations that keep women from achieving their potential...There is a section on Menopause which is critically important and only recently has been getting focus in the news and among legislators. I encourage leaders and HR professionals to read this book to start examining the systemic barriers for women in organizations - GoodReads
It’s hard to disagree with anything in this book. It’s clear. It’s pithy. It’s enraging. - Christina Patterson, The Sunday Times
'...what an absolute triumph of a book...Seriously good, seriously thought provoking and seriously worth a read if you are a midlife women or are in an organisation wondering how you can support them, get the best out of them, retain them for longer.'- LinkedIn
I recommend the book particularly for anyone in DEI, HR, Recruitment, but to be honest, I think everyone else should read it too! Isn't it such a brilliant name for a book on this topic? I just love that headline - revolting women! - LinkedIn
At times, the sheer volume of evidence illustrating the challenges midlife women face in business was a lot - but then it is in real life too. The inspiring stories and the invitation to create a positive agenda for change were uplifting. The perfect combination. - Amazon
At last someone is articulating my own experience in the workplace and giving it a compassionate and powerful formulation and suggestions for change- really helpful. ...Thank you Lucy Ryan for putting together this impressive piece of work. - Amazon
