The 987 series built on the success of the original Boxster, and also spawned a new coupé version called the Cayman. In true Porsche tradition, the model was subjected to a programme of continuous development and allowed to evolve, with increasingly sportier versions following, year after year. Told by a leading marque authority, this is the definitive story of Porsche’s affordable two-seater models from prototype stage through to 2013, providing year-by-year coverage of all the model variants, and details of the cars sold in all major markets. Complete with stunning factory-sourced images, this book is a visual treat for all Porsche Boxster and Cayman enthusiasts.
Covering 987 Boxster and Cayman models produced between 2004 and 2013, this new book entitles Porsche Boxster & Cayman is packed full of information enthusiasts will adore. It has been produced with the cooperation of the Porsche factory and features 288 images, most being colour, and it is 180 pages in length. With detailed colour and trim guides being just one part of its content, it has been created to be an invaluable guide to this popular series of Porsche cars. - GT Porsche. There are few cars that have had more books published about them than the Porsche 911, so this just-publishd title from Brian Long goes a long way in addressing the paucity of works serving other Porsche models. The title tells us something - that the Boxster's been around longer than many of is might have imagined - but its acceptance by Porsche enthusiasts has cemented the smaller model's place in the company's history. Long, as always, does a first-rate job in detailing the history of the Boxster and its younger Cayman sibling. But rather than simply amassing the facts and rushing those facts, loosely assembled, into print, he goes back to the origins of the Boxster in its 986 form: What were the reasons for its launch, how it then came about, its acceptance across the world and how it has advanced over the years. A year-by history of the models development, while technical and chassis number data is welcome. A welcome title, properly illustrated. - on-magazine.co.uk. In this Veloce series, the same author already published the book about the Boxster 986, built between 1996 and 2004. The first Boxster 986 had the same headlights of the Porsche 996, and this was a good deal with 911 lovers. Fans and owners of the Boxster 986 thought this was a plus. In 2004, a genuinely refurbished model was proposed with the type 987, which, and how it could otherwise be, was given oval lights! One did not want to make the same mistake because the Porsche 997 mounted round lights. At the end of 2005, Boxster received the Porsche Cayman company, a little cheaper than the Boxster. In this new book, every model year and all variants are taken under the loupe. The book contains a wealth of information and technical data. Production numbers, chassis numbers and available colours, just about everything. An excellent source of information for owners and future owners. The book can help to determine whether a model offered is original. - Old-timer Magazine/Dreamcar magazine. The author is a prolific Porsche writer and Porsche Boxster & Cayman is another workmanlike and detailed account: it covers the evolution of the 987 Boxster, the conception of the entirely new Cayman and steady development of both models through to 2010. As ever, Long provides interesting background. Porsche Boxster & Cayman is imaginatively laid out and illustrated and will undoubtedly appeal to all 987 owners. - Kieron Fennelly Freelance. Veloce Publishing has been busy recently developing their catalogue section marked 'Porsche' and this new title from Brian Long, noted marque authority, covers the second generation Boxster and Cayman models. It includes an overview of all the variants sold in each of the world's major markets and is packed full of information and illustrations sourced from the factory. A perfect guide for enthusiasts, historians and those looking to achieve perfect accuracy on a secondhand purchase. -tkc. You'd think that a book covering the history of a car as relatively new as the Porsche Boxster wouldn't be that extensive, but Brian Long has made sure that the opposite is true. The development of all three models covered by this book (986 Boxster and 987 Boxster/Cayman) is detailed extensively, accompanied by comprehensive technical illustrations. Long even discusses the differences between each trim level. A truly comprehensive, well-illustrated history of what is now one of the great bargain sports cars. – Classic Car Weekly.
