The same basic procedures are applied in all Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) implementations.
- Pre-processing - this procedure is prior to computational simulation and establishes the physical conditions (geometry definition), mesh size (volume division), hydrodynamic models and boundary conditions.
- Simulation - this is the actual computational experiment. It includes numerical discretization methods, turbulence models, linear algebraic equation systems and other scientific libraries.
- Post-processing - this is the final procedure when the computations are complete. This involves analysis and visualization of the resulting solution. Usually, the information is displayed in color graphics and, sometimes, the information is animated to show physical changes in time, follow a fluid particle or a streamline.
First, the book overviews these aforementioned procedures in some detail. Next, it reviews the applications CDF to the advances in transportation, construction, biomedical engineering, turbines and centrifuges design, as well as the modeling of processes that can impact environments such as pollutant emissions, water treatment, powder handling and degradation of organic materials. This book is divided into the following 5 sections:- Section 1 - CFD applications in the designing, optimization and testing of transportation.
- Section 2 - CFD applications to cardiovascular hemodynamics and biomimetics.
- Section 3 - CFD applications to architecture design and optimization in terms of energy consumption, ventilation and cooling systems.
- Section 4 - CFD Applied to the designing and optimization of turbines and centrifuges
- Section 5 - CFD applications to the study of combustion, sedimentation, granulation, oxidation processes in manufacturing engineering.
