The first thing I noticed about this book is that it is spiral bound and so has been produced with the intention that it can be used as a reference whilst sewing. It is packed full of information and designs, containing 16 all over quilting patterns that are broken down to create 155 different block, sashing and border designs. Each one is clearly illustrated so even a beginner can learn how to approach a simple block and fill it with what looks like a complex quilting design. This is a book I would buy not only for beginners, but for friends with more quilting experience as it both informs and inspires you to try new things in your approach to free motion quilting. The dedication sums up the book nicely by saying 'To everyone who has ever looked at a quilt top and wondered where to begin.'. If you are considering free motion quilting then this is an ideal book to add to your sewing library.

These are purely designs, there are no instructions for quilting techniques. All the designs were sewn on a domestic machine but they could be used on a longarm machine. The important rule is ‘Always stitch in the ditch over the entire quilt first’. A series of very small diagrams show all-over designs. Black lines show the progression from the first stages but no starting or finishing points are indicated. 30 blocks are each heavily quilted
in several different styles, with stage by stage diagrams. There are also designs for sashing and borders.
