Wait until you get your hands on this rugged paper that looks, feels, and wears like leather, but sews, cuts, and washes just like fabric. kraft-tex™ is supple, yet strong enough to use for projects that get tough wear. Use it to bring an exciting new texture to your craft-sewing projects, mixed-media arts, and bookmaking. Color may vary slightly between rolls.
• Play with it! Sew it, stamp it, draw on it, fold it, inkjet print it
• Durable enough for totes, belts, wallets, book covers, luggage tags, and more
• The fiber-based texture softens and crinkles with handling and washing.
19" x 10 yards bolt in natural, unwashed colour.
Kraft-Tex is a new paper from C&T Publishing that has the appearance of thick card with qualities of leather and fabric in that it is robust, can be stitched and cut and has a soft feel to it. It looks a bit like Grungepaper but without the rough, recycled and compressed feel to it.
It can be used like card for mixed-media work but because it can be stitched into, this
opens up more possibilities for making bags or quilts, or using for applique and cutwork.
It comes in five colours – White, Black, Stone, Natural and Chocolate. I used the Chocolate and Stone to make a book cover. I used the Scan'n'Cut machine to cut out the shapes of a simplified outline of an ammonite from both pieces of Kraft-Tex (below left). Then I inserted the Chocolate pieces into the Stone outline (below middle) before backing the sheet onto a piece of Decovil to give it stability. Finally, I stitched the large ammonite pieces into place.
