This collection highlights unique, unpublished Jack Kirby projects from the 1970s, including stories that showcase his innovative artistry and storytelling.
In collaboration with DC Comics, Jack Kirby’s Dingbat Love brings to light a collection of previously unseen projects from the legendary artist Jack Kirby, all originating from the vibrant 1970s. This volume showcases the final complete unpublished stories that Kirby crafted, offering a rare glimpse into his creative process. Among the treasures included are two unused tales from the 'Dingbats of Danger Street,' which features Kirby's last Kid Gang, beautifully inked by Mike Royer and D. Bruce Berry, and newly colored specifically for this compilation.
Additionally, readers can explore 'True-Life Divorce,' an abandoned newsstand magazine that was deemed too provocative for its era. This piece is reproduced directly from Kirby's original pencil art, and as a special treat, Mike Royer has been commissioned to ink one of the stories for this collection. Furthermore, the book features 'Soul Love,' a unique romance comic from the '70s that is so distinctive, it promises to appeal to even the most discerning fans with its unretouched inks by Vince Colletta and Tony DeZuniga.
Completing this rich anthology is an insightful examination by Kirby historian John Morrow, who delves into the reasons behind the abandonment of these projects. The book also includes concept art and uninked pencils from 'Dingbats,' along with a Foreword by Mark Evanier, who assisted Kirby during the '70s, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of this fascinating period in comic history.
