A story about growing up, for little kids and big kids ages 5 years and up."Delightful story to read as a family during the toddler and preschool years." - Pamela Gombert (Librarian) Prunella wakes up on the morning of her birthday and announces, “I’m a big kid now.” She doesn’t want to do any of the things she usually loves. “That’s for babies,” she announces over and over again. Even her favorite doll is abandoned. But what happens when a big kid gets scared during the night? A story about growing up, for little kids and big kids ages 5 years and up. Guided Reading Level K At Clavis, our focus is on what’s best for children. We believe that books play an important role in each new phase in life. Our toddler books are tailored for every stage from 0 to 3 and focus on the five most important themes in their life: daily life, skills, emotions, the world, and language development. The age range and theme of every book in our toddler series can be found on the back cover in the form of a colored train.
"This is a sweet book that covers a stage in life that all "big kids" go through, making it very relatable to almost any young reader. Pro, the main character, announces that all the things she used to like to do is for babies, until she realizes that having fun is for everyone, including big kids. This book may be a helpful tool for preschoolers straddling the divide between being a baby and independence. I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review." - Skye Lee (Educator) "Kramer captures the stage when a young child decides everything is for babies and they are too old for it. Pru packs away her toys, stops enjoying fun activities and doesn't want any foods she liked before. As all children do, she discovers life is much fuller when you continue to enjoy everything involved in it. The illustrations bring Pru and her dilemmas to life. Delightful story to read as a family during the toddler and preschool years." - Pamela Gombert (Librarian) "That's for Babies is a picture book subject that parents of toddlers can be found looking for in a public library setting or for librarians to use in a story time setting. Littte Prunella wakes up one morning, which also happens to be her birthday and declares that she is a big kid now. Prunella is no longer in need of baby-like treatment throughout the day, like heart-shaped pancakes, animal cookies, and general pretend play. But that evening a big storm rolls in at bedtime and not-a-baby Prunella struggles with being scared and wanting to go to her parents bed for comfort. This book would be a great story to read to older toddlers in a story time setting, but I find the length of the book a little long for a young toddler, so the ages would be a mature child 3 and older. The repetition of "That's for babies" is a wonderful early literacy addition for the story. The illustrations are bright and colorful and follow the story well." - Arin Burton - Librarian
