“The authors have updated their masterful 2011 book on anorectal procedures with beautifully illustrated operative tips and techniques. The print book is accompanied by website that is easy to search and has clear illustrations.
The purpose is to illustrate and provide step-by-step guidance for the anorectal procedures a colorectal or general surgeon is sure to encounter. Often misunderstood and misdiagnosed, anorectal conditions can present diagnostic and surgical challenges for surgeons. This book offers much-needed guidance with clear verbal and pictorial descriptions. The online version is useful, although it is essentially identical to the print book.
The book is geared towards residents, fellows, or attending level surgeons who encounter anorectal conditions. With clearly worded and nicely illustrated explanations of the steps for each procedure, this is a useful reference for both trainees and consultants. The editors have compiled a group of contributors, many of whom are internationally known experts in the field, who have published and practiced extensively about the topics they write about.
This book covers nearly the full range of anorectal conditions and associated surgical procedures that general or colorectal surgeons might encounter. It is suitably basic for generalists, but it also covers more specialized procedures performed by colon and rectal surgeons, such as local resection of rectal cancer and advancement flaps. The topics are clearly and logically organized and include critical elements such as preoperative planning, positioning considerations, and step-by-step details of the procedure, which are accompanied by clear color photographs and illustrations. Readers should be aware that this book, while broad, does not cover all anorectal conditions, only those with surgical corrections, which is in keeping with the authors' goals.
This is a very useful book, particularly for trainees or for young surgeons who encounter anorectal conditions. Its step-by-step description of procedures, as well as its illustrations and photos, will guide surgeons and allow them to perform these with confidence.”
