Our societies are experiencing accumulating crises for example austerity, the Covid-19 pandemic and the global environmental emergency. There is an urgent need to challenge the existing foundations of policy making and build a more sustainable future. This book argues that mainstream social policy has been part of the problem rather than the solution because it has, at the theoretical level, conflated with neoclassical economics. Advocating an alternative notion of social policy, this text argues that states can liberate creative potentials by rethinking the role of knowledge and by adopting new policies, such as Universal Seed Money, to create sustainable opportunities for the self-employed and entrepreneurs.
