Bee Still cover

Bee Still is a child-friendly introduction to meditation.

Bentley the bee lives in a busy, bustling hive. One day, when the other bees rush out to make honey, Bentley decides to meditate first. The other animals are curious about what Bentley is doing—so he teaches them how he uses meditation to focus, feel calm, and soothe difficult feelings. Includes a Note to Parents and Caregivers with more ideas for introducing meditation into your child's life.

Bentley is a lovable, calm honeybee. He lives in a hive in a tall oak tree.
One day, the queen told the bees to get busy. This sent them scrambling into a tizzy.
But not Bentley. He chose to be patient and wait.
He decided to look for a place to meditate.

Research has indicated that meditation can assist with improving concentration and focus, calming anxiety, and reducing impulsivity. Just like adults, children can benefit from turning off electronic devices and being present to what is happening to them in the moment.

Excerpt:

Meditation is a practice for calming one’s mind and body. Research has indicated that meditation can assist with improving concentration and focus, calming anxiety, and reducing impulsivity, among other benefits. Meditation takes time, commitment, and practice; it is not an exercise that should be applied only when your child is stressed out, worried, or lacking focus

"This delightful rhyming book has a message of calm and serenity to pass onto today's overbusy child." —Storywraps

“Bee Still introduces meditation practice to children. Beautifully written and illustrated, I think any reader will fall in love with this gem of a book. I know I did. “—Sharon Salzberg, author of Real Love

“A great introduction to meditation for parents who know the importance of instilling mindfulness in their children at a young age. As the story progresses, your child will be taken on a journey through a day in the life of a busy bee, who understands the importance of finding the time to stop buzzing and enjoy the now. You and your child will learn the fundamentals of meditation that can produce outstanding breakthroughs through the simple practice introduced in this happy, light and comforting children’s book.” —Jake Najjar, founder of Meditation Dude (@Meditation.Dude on Instagram), a platform aimed at promoting positivity and mindfulness in the daily lives of its community.

“Bee Still is a wonderful, much-needed introduction to meditation for kids.  In a world where we are all feeling the pressure to go-go-go, Dr. Sileo masterfully guides us to consider instead slowing down and pausing, providing clear, simple tools to connect with our breath and quiet our minds.  What a different world it could be if we all listened to his sage advice!” —Lawrence Rosen, MD, RYT, Pediatrician and Founder of The Whole Child Center

“Dr. Frank Sileo’s newest book, Bee Still, is more than charming, it’s important. In a world of digital overload, the biggest gift we can give our children is to teach them how to take five minutes and just be. Read this together and be enchanted, enlightened, and embraced by Bentley Bee and his posse of friends.” —Stefani Deoul, television producer and author of the award-winning Sid Rubin Silicon Alley Adventures

“This wonderful book with lovely illustrations teaches children the power of mindful meditation to calm their busy (bee) minds. How delightful to see mindfulness instructions succinctly explained in rhymes. Best of all, it's all about sharing mindfulness with your friends!” —Diana Winston, Director of Mindfulness Education, UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center, Author of Fully Present: The Science, Art and Practice of Mindfulness

“How clever and insightful of Dr. Frank Sileo to use a bee to introduce a meditation practice to children.  His charming book “shows” rather than “tells.”  This story suggests to children how to “Bee” lively while cultivating centeredness and a sense of wonder, much as his previous book on mindfulness, A World of Pausabilities, explored the power of pausing as an antidote to the fast pace of modern life. Even young children are often stilled by the sight of a bee making its way around, into, and out of a flower—illustrating the natural rhythms of being alive and having a place in the order of things. It is this rhythm of a more meditatively informed life, which Dr. Sileo creatively explores in this profoundly loving children’s book, which also includes a helpful guide for adults on how to gently introduce a meditation practice to children.” —Diane Handlin, Ph.D. Founder and Executive Director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Center of NJ
