Handbook of Assessment and Treatment of Female Crime and Violence cover

Discourse on female crime and violence has been increasing in recent years in response to hotly debated claims that women and girls are increasingly involved in violence and crime and the extent to which this reflects actual changes in behavior versus altered policies and practices (e.g., three strikes laws; drug offenses) that are increasingly criminalizing already marginalized girls and women (e.g., impoverished, ethnic minorities, prostitutes). An in-depth examination of the empirical knowledge base on violence and criminal offending in girls and women provides scholars and policy makers with critical information on this neglected topic.

Yes. This is a very sound proposal. It needs a few adjustments, but these should be routine. Corinne and Tonia are very well-regarded in the field, and they have lined up a very strong group of contributor. Kirk Heilbrun, Professor of Psychology, Drexel University

This is an excellent text for graduate student courses in forensic work, women’s studies, and criminal justice. It would definitely be appropriate for graduate courses; it might be a little intensive for undergraduate courses. As a professional, I would be very interested in reading this book. Michelle Guyton, PhD Northwest Forensics, Portland Or.

De Ruiter and Nicholls have proposed a comprehensive, evidenced-based review of crime and violence in women. The identified authors of each chapter are experts in their field and will provide a balanced, research-based overview. The editors noted that theoretical models of crime and violence will be included, but the volume is not driven by a particular theoretical model. An objective, balanced, evidence-based treatment of this topic is a welcome addition to the field. R Jackson, PhD Correctcarers.com FL.

Definitely publish. It will be a good edition to the IAFMHS series as no other book in this series focuses on this important topic. Series Editor, Ron Roesch, Professor of Psychology Simon Fraser University, BC

Yes I would, as I have outlined above this is an important area of study that has been gaining interest in the last decade and there is a need for a handbook such as this that synthesizes the research in a comprehensive multifunctional text.
