Migration, Culture Conflict, Crime and Terrorism cover

Immigration and its consequences is a substantially contested subject with hugely differing viewpoints. While some contend that criminal participation by migrants is the result of environmental factors found in the host country that are beyond the control of migrants, others blame migrants for all that is wrong in their communities. In this book, experts from Europe, the USA, Turkey and Israel examine recent developments in the fields of culture conflict, organized crime, victimization and terrorism, all of which intersect to varying degrees with migration and illegal conduct. While the essays further our understanding of a variety of issues surrounding migration, at the same time they illuminate the complexities of managing the challenges as globalization increases.

'Migration and crime is a Pandora's Box where many things, not always of good quality, could be found. This anthology differs for two main reasons: it is a wide analysis of the relationships between migration and different forms of crime and a complete and fair explanation of the different roles played by migrants when authors or victims.' Ernesto U. Savona, Università Cattolica, Italy 'Anyone interested in the role of nationalism and religion in the Balkans and the Middle East will find... [this book]...very important reading...the situation on the ground in Bosnia-Herzegovina is discussed in a series of impressive anthropological studies for which the editors provide a long and impressive introduction. This kind of detailed and painstaking anthropological analysis shows how at risk we are on account of the soap opera snapshots provided by the media.' Journal of Contemporary Religion '...migration is an increasingly current issue, with clear evidence of a trend among national goverernments to strenghen their management of the immigration process, so this is a timely study.' Thames View '...the collection is an interesting contribution [to] the study of the broad relationship among culture, migration and crime. The subject is an extremely important one, because migratory flows are likely to increase in th next few years, and accurate research in the field is vital to prevent the repetition of major errors and the perpetuation of baseless stereotypes.' Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management 'This volume is an important addition to...[the]...process of interrogating the field of migration and criminology.'
