This Element adds to the current discourse on the study of policy design by (i) presenting behavioral assumptions and structural features of policy design; (ii) presenting a multi-level analytical framework for organizing policy design research; (iii) highlighting the role of policy compatibility and policy adaptability in influencing policy efficacy; and (iv) presenting future research recommendations relating to these topics.
'Siddiki covers a huge amount of territory and history of the frameworks available to analyse design across levels and appraise its resilience and adaptability. One of the greatest merits of this Element is to introduce the institutional grammar tool - Ostrom's universal syntax to analyse and compare institutional statements and policies across a variety of sectors and levels of governance.'
