This book defines the ingredients of "successful" ageing among women by exploring the largely invisible aspects of their world. In addition to quantitative data, Alice Day uses open-ended interview techniques to allow women to speak about what successful ageing means to them, and how aspects of the social system in the US affect the quality of their lives. Her recommendations on how to foster more successful ageing among women in their 70s and 80s serve as a guide to community and national level policymakers, but also to all of us, on how we can set the stage now for an old age that does not necessarily lower our social, economic, or emotional quality of life nor that of those around us.
