This book chronicles the life of Karl König, highlighting his dedication to children with special needs and the founding of the Camphill movement.

The story of Karl König's remarkable life and work is both captivating and inspiring. Karl König: My Task offers a unique glimpse into the life of a man who dedicated himself to the care and education of children with special needs. This book features a combination of König's autobiographical writings and an insightful essay by Peter Selg, complemented by reminiscences from his colleagues, Anke Weihs and Hans-Heinrich Engel. Together, these elements paint a vivid picture of König's journey and the impact he had on many lives.

Born in 1902 into a Jewish family in Vienna, Karl König grew up during the final years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His pursuit of medicine led him to discover the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, which profoundly influenced his work. After graduating, he collaborated with Ita Wegman in Switzerland, where he also met his wife, Tilla. König's commitment to the well-being of children with special needs became evident during his time at Pilgramshain in Silesia, Germany.

As political tensions escalated in Europe, König faced significant challenges, including the rise of the Nazis. After fleeing to Britain, he became instrumental in establishing the Camphill community in 1939, which aimed to foster a sense of belonging and support for individuals with disabilities. Karl König: My Task ultimately chronicles the legacy of a man whose vision and compassion continue to inspire communities worldwide.
