The New Catalan Short Story cover

These thirteen short stories (two with side-by-side English translation) bring to light a fascinating literature long repressed by the Franco regime in Spain. The writers are young, born in the years immediately following the Spanish Civil War (c. 1940). The authors were assisted by John Dagenais, now Assistant Professor at Northwestern University. Co-published with the North American Catalan Society.

The concept of this pioneering work, designed for students and teachers of Catalan, could hardly be improved...an interesting bonus is the presence of statements by the authors as to their views of the conte as a literary genre. * Studies In Short Fiction *
The work provides an original contribution to the field, and is carried out with a clear educational objective, useful for introducing foreign readers to the works of those young, yet mature, short story writers working in Catalonia, the Baleares, andValencia. * Zeitschrift für Romanische Philologie *
