This book offers a comprehensive view of the Bible, revealing how its parts connect to form a unified narrative of God's plan for humanity.
In Panorama of the Bible, Stephen Binz invites readers to explore the interconnectedness of the Scriptures, emphasizing the importance of viewing the Bible as a cohesive whole. By stepping back from individual stories and characters, readers gain a broader perspective that reveals God’s unified plan for humanity throughout history. This approach not only enhances our understanding of the text but also deepens our appreciation for its divine narrative.
The book serves as the first part of a two-part series, where Binz meticulously illustrates how the various components of the Bible fit together to create a grand narrative. He highlights the significance of each book and its contribution to the overarching story of God’s relationship with humanity. This panoramic view allows readers to grasp the continuity and consistency of God’s message across different eras and contexts.
Ultimately, Panorama of the Bible encourages readers to reflect on their own roles within this divine storyline. By understanding the Bible’s sweeping unity, individuals can better comprehend their personal mission within God’s plan. Binz’s insightful analysis is both enlightening and inspiring, making this work an essential resource for anyone seeking to deepen their faith and understanding of Scripture.
Stephen Binz has done it again! He has written a compelling book offering a bird's eye view of the Old Testament, a road map for those willing and ready to explore further. This book will be an excellent guide for those who want a fresh overview of the Old Testament. Stephen's complementary book on the New Testament, together with this work, will be a great starting point for those wishing a solid but readable introduction to the Bible.Brian Schmisek Director of the Institute of Pastoral Studies, Loyola University Chicago, and author of Resurrection of the Flesh or Resurrection from the Dead: Implications for Theology published by Liturgical Press
Stephen Binz's Panorama of the Bible is a clearly written overview of the entire Old Testament appropriate for any adult faith formation and religious education contexts. Reading this book reminded me about `the forest and the trees.' While many commentaries provide great detail on the trees (individual biblical books), Binz's Panorama of the Bible helps the reader gain a deep appreciation of the forest as a whole (the Bible as sacred scripture), so that one can also better understand how each biblical book fits into the big picture. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to gain a clearer understanding of how the various stories contained in so many different biblical books all fit together in the revelation of God's plan of salvation.Rev.
