The Start of Everything cover

Through the eyes of five different characters, the story unravels. Mathilde Oliver, the OCD daughter of a Cambridge don, is attempting to trace the writer of a series of letters. Letters that are addressed to Katja, a student at Corpus Christi who doesn't seem to exist. The nameless body and the obscure letters lead Frohmann and Keene to Deeping House, where they begin to unravel a web of passions and secrets, of long-buried crimes and fresh horrors.

'Emily Winslow's writing is uniquely perceptive and penetrating - She is a precise and expert analyst of the darkest parts of the human psyche.' SOPHIE HANNAH 'A masterful whodunit!... A must read!' LISA GARDNER '[Winslow is] brilliant at portraying the ragged fragments of these lives. What emerges isn't a single killer with motive and means, but a tangle of stories crossing and colliding, stray intersections of incidents and accidents, misunderstandings, and misreadings, all thanks to the myopia of individual perspectives and the self-centeredness of individual desires' THE WASHINGTON POST 'Sharp, well observed, and totally engrossing... With a clever mystery that slowly unravels at its heart and will keep you guessing until the end, 'The Start of Everything' is an excellent read and I'll certainly be on the lookout for the next instalment' Crimesquad
