War Games

Part of the specially-commissioned White Wolves fiction range for 7-11 year olds, written in consultation with the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education. Each year group has three stand-alone titles and accompanying Teachers' Guides to support guided reading lessons in the classroom. The series is already garnering praise in the press: 'It's a pleasure to read commissioned work which fulfils its brief so imaginatively' Books for Keeps. Ties in with the NLS Year 4 theme: stories with historical settings.

A historical tale set during World War I. It's Christmas 1914 and in No Man's Land a unique game of football is being played - between British and German troops.It's Christmas Eve, 1914, and there's a war on. British and German soldiers sit in the muddy trenches either side of No Man's Land, as deadly enemies. Suddenly, a strange sound fills the air. A German voice is singing 'Silent Night'. A British sergeant joins in, and so begins a most unusual evening indeed...War Games is a historical story set during World War I.
