The book provides an accessible and practical handbook of clinical interventions for mental health (and health) professionals who work on a daily basis with children and families affected by trauma. Many of these professionals are faced with children and adults in debilitating distress and often feel helpless to intervene. This book will provide a guide to a range of techniques and strategies, which will allow clinicians to increase their therapeutic repetoire. The authors have facilitated a series of workshops on this and other aspects of dealing with trauma related problems and the feedback has indicated that a book of this kind is timely. A growing awareness from the research literature on the impact of trauma on children and families also means that many mental health professionals are receiving more referrals for those affected. Many clinical trainings provide a sound theoretical base for understanding the impact on children and families, but little in the way of a range of interventions that are useful in everyday clinical practice. This book will seek to address this aspect of practice.
