Today’s business organizations, especially large ones, are complex places; difficult to manage and to control. Much of this complexity is self-induced and too much of the management of these organizations is done on an ad hoc basis. Different reporting, control and management systems are used in different parts of the company and often these are incompatible, making it difficult, sometimes impossible for top management to know what is going on. Consequently it is an arduous task for managers to make strategic plans for the business or react quickly to changes in the environment.
This book shows how much of this complexity can be smoothed away through the introduction of overarching management frameworks that are complete, consistent and comprehensive; bringing all the various parts of the organization together as a single system. It provides a whole-firm view of management and suggests that reputational and ethical issues are equally important to marketing, operations and finance and need to be considered within the framework.
Management Frameworks is a practical and insightful book; offering students the tools and knowledge required for viewing strategy and management holistically. It will be required reading for executive education classes in strategic management and will find a ready audience with thinking managers everywhere.
‘Management Frameworks is a uniquely useful and timely book. While being intellectually rigorous and comprehensive, it is at the same time of great practical utility to the executive who badly needs assistance in aligning the strategic ambitions of their firm with all the drivers needed for implementation. A must read.’
Anthony Hourihan, Emeritus Professor, University College Dublin, Ireland
'The measure of value of any business publication is its applicability to real world situations. Management Frameworks satisfies this criteria as it offers a practical methodology that provides logical solutions to complex organizational challenges common to the full spectrum of today’s business environment.'
Bruce Mihok, Vice President, SAP Routes-to-Market Marketing
'Global leaders confronting persistent change and relentless uncertainty can now set their course with an insightful navigation tool. Management Frameworks offers research-based solutions and timely tips that even a seasoned hand will quickly deem indispensable.'
US Ambassador Barbara Barrett (ret.), Interim President, Thunderbird School of Global Management, USA
'This is a book of ‘management of management’. So far most educational and consultancy practices have been based on rather specialist approaches. This book makes it very clear that only by applying overarching frameworks combined with sub frameworks would a leader succeed in aligning strategy with execution, thus connecting the departmental silos.'
Xudong Gao, Professor of Management of Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University, China
'A highly integrative and thought-provoking exploration of key strategic challenges.'
