Science, Technology and Innovation in BRICS Countries cover

The term BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) is gaining global attention both in scholarly and popular discourse. BRICS countries are crucial in terms of their vast areas, huge population and have massive economic potential. These countries are also categorized as developing countries and are aspiring to be considered as developed countries. There is commonality among these countries in that they have similar issues and problems, which may require common solutions. Science, Technology and Innovation in BRICS Countries examines whether more emphasis on Science Technology and Innovation (STI) capability building could be the solution to these countries’ economic upgradation and poverty reduction.

This book is a collection of various Science Technology and Innovation (STI) issues of BRICS economics, and will be of interest to general readers, scholars working in this field, as well as policy makers all over the globe.

The contributions come from various scholars across the globe who have published their BRICS economics research in a special issue of the African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation and Development.

"The rising economies play more important role, like BRICS, not just in economy, even more in science and technology. With the more and more well educated people, and more and more successfully competence companies, working with universities, BRICS are no more as used to be the followers, recipients of mature technology, they are doing efficiently the R&D work now, even in some aspects with much lower cost in developing quality science and technology. However, how they succeed? What is new in their ways or patterns in R&D? This book with high quality research provides sufficient answers and references that can generate very useful policy learning."

Prof. Xiaob Wu (ChangJiang Chair Professor honored by Ministry of Education, China, Qiushi Chair Professor of Innovation and Strategic Management, Zhejiang University, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University, China.

"The book "Science, Technology and Innovation in BRICS Countries" edited by Swapan K. Patra and Mammo Muchie offers both, a wide perspective on what BRICS countries are doing in terms of STI, from the view of recognized scholars belonging to those countries and at the same time, a globalized comparative analysis throughout its chapters. By presenting studies focused on carbon emissions, public policy support, foreign direct investments, patenting and entrepreneurship among others, the book makes a case about the modern broad scope of STI topics on global challenges and to BRICS in particular. I recommend this book to an ample readership interested in these contexts."

Prof. Mauricio Uriona Maldonado, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

"BRICS countries are revealing new and alternative progressive pathways to traditional models of growth and in addressing developmental challenges. Science Technology and Innovation (STI) in BRICS countries is thus an exciting and engaging topic for scholars from a wide cross-disciplinary background. This book. contemporary and expansive in scope draws upon the various facets of STI in BRICS countries to make it a highly valuable book for researchers and policy makers."

Prof. Sujit Bhattacharya, Chief Scientist CSIR-National Institute of Science Technology and development Studies, India, Professor Academy of Scientific and innovative Research, India and Editor-In-Chief Journal of Scientometric Research.
