Community in Transition

This is a thorough investigation of a unique experiment in community change, consisting of the absorption of higher status groups into an underprivileged town. The experiment is evaluated on the basis of surveys, in-depth interviews, and observations.

Yet, expectations for social integration between the new and veteran residents were not fulfilled. The dynamics of unbalanced outcomes are demonstrated in the areas of intergroup attitudes, the formation of social networks, and in the political and educational arenas.
