This publication explores the role of private sector partnerships in advancing health and the Sustainable Development Goals, offering valuable insights and strategies.
In September 2015, the United Nations Development Summit adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a comprehensive 15-year action plan for nations worldwide. These 17 specific goals, along with 169 associated targets, aim to establish measurable objectives across social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, with a deadline set for 2030. Health has been identified as a cornerstone for sustainable human development and plays a vital role in the economic advancement of societies. The goal of 'ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages' is central to the SDGs, while many other goals also address the environmental and social determinants of health.
In light of this framework, the Forum on Public–Private Partnerships for Global Health and Safety organized a series of workshops to explore potential avenues for private sector engagement and the development of partnerships that can enhance health outcomes and support the SDGs. This publication encapsulates the key presentations and discussions from these workshops, offering insights into how collaboration can be structured to maximize impact.
The book, Engaging the Private Sector and Developing Partnerships to Advance Health and the Sustainable Development Goals, delves into various strategies for fostering effective partnerships. It covers public-sector strategies for sustainable development, private-sector engagement opportunities, and lessons learned from implementing health-focused partnerships. The comprehensive nature of this publication serves as a valuable resource for stakeholders aiming to understand and leverage the role of private sector engagement in achieving the SDGs.
