This book presents a thorough exploration of Tamara de Lempicka's life and art, revealing her multifaceted identity and artistic evolution.

This remarkable retrospective delves into the life and work of Tamara de Lempicka, a pivotal figure in the Art Deco movement. Known as the 'Baroness with a Brush,' Lempicka's artistry is celebrated for its unique blend of Cubism and Neoclassicism, creating a distinctive style that captivates audiences. Her iconic paintings often feature confident, glamorous women who embody both elegance and a sense of daring sensuality, reflecting the complex interplay of modern and classical themes. One of her most famous works, a self-portrait featuring her driving a sleek green Bugatti, epitomizes this fusion of styles and identities.

Tamara de Lempicka offers a comprehensive overview of the artist's career, tracing her journey from her Polish and Russian roots to her influential years in France, Italy, and the United States. The book is structured into three sections, each highlighting significant phases of her life and the evolution of her artistic expression. It emphasizes her Jewish heritage, as well as her explorations of gender and sexuality, providing a nuanced understanding of how these aspects shaped her work.

This visually stunning survey is published in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, coinciding with an exhibition that celebrates Lempicka's legacy. The exhibition will be held at the de Young Museum in San Francisco from October 12, 2024, to February 9, 2025, followed by a display at The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston from March 9 to May 26, 2025.
