A comprehensive and insightfully analyzed range of the works of Czech composers from the late-18th through the early-20th centuries
Analyzes the piano music of Czech composers from the late-18th through the early-20th centuries. Ranging from composers - Janacek, Smetana, and Martinu - to more obscure composers - Benda, Stepan, and Suk, this collection contains essays that can be useful for liner and program notes, and for pedagogical and performance insights.
Piano Music of the Czech Romantics is an anthology of forty compositions for piano by eighteen composers representing two centuries of Czech musical history. Drawing upon well-known composers—Smetana, Dvorák, Janácek, and Martinu—to ones lesser known—Benda, Fibich, and Suk—these examples, many of them out of print, are accompanied by biographical information, analyses, interpretive suggestions for each piece, as well as listings of recommended repertoire, editions, recordings, and source material for each composer. An attached CD of sixteen of the pieces in the anthology, recorded by Dr. Yeomans, is also included.
