This resource enhances scientific understanding and confidence through an inquiry-based, concept-driven approach, essential for success in the MYP and beyond.
In MYP Biology: a Concept Based Approach: Print and Online Pack, educators are provided with a comprehensive resource designed to enhance scientific understanding among learners. This text is intricately aligned with the Next Chapter curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the MYP sciences. The inquiry-based structure encourages students to engage deeply with concepts, fostering a robust foundation in scientific principles that are essential for their academic progression.
The approach taken in MYP Biology emphasizes the importance of developing a confident scientific mindset. By integrating a concept-based methodology with inquiry-driven learning, students are empowered to think independently and critically. This combination not only strengthens their performance in assessments but also prepares them for the challenges of the IB Diploma. The resource is designed to enhance flexibility, allowing learners to connect global contexts with their scientific studies, thereby promoting a broader understanding of the subject matter.
Included in this pack is a print Student Book alongside an online version, which will be accessible on the Oxford Education Bookshelf until 2028. Access to the online Student Book is facilitated through a unique code, ensuring that students can engage with the material in a way that suits their learning preferences. Overall, MYP Biology serves as an essential tool for building scientific confidence and encouraging meaningful conceptual connections among students.
I love the book. There are a few specific bits that I really appreciated in its capacity to build inquiring learners. The lab activities, while small, are designed for inquiry and not cookie-cutter-table-fillers. They really build on the idea that students should experience events that prompt questioning and the application of knowledge. They aren't the 10 page epics that I am used to and I appreciate that. In fact, I think that students will be able to get more out of this than the others. The units are built into wider topics such as transformation and energy, rather than content areas. This is an outstanding way to help students see the sciences as intertwined topics of study and not as discrete silos of information. As a teacher of DP Biology as well as MYP, it was great to see the vertical alignment to get students ready for success later on. * John Kish, Rufus King International School, WI, USA *
