This is the first revision of the texts of the satires of Persius and Juvenalis in the OCT series since their original publication in 1959.Aulus Persius Flaccus (AD 34-62) and Juvenal (fl. early 2nd century AD) were two major, highly influential writers of satirical poetry of the early Roman Empire. The mordant wit of each, and the biting irony with which they exposed contemporary life and abuses, have been universally enjoyed and admired by readers and writers of poetry ever since - notably the satirical poets of later English literature such as Johnson, Donne, and Swift. This revised edition - the first since its original publication in 1959 - conveniently brings together both poets in a single volume, and contains, along with a freshly amended version of the text, a concise apparatus criticus at the foot of each page, and a full Preface, giving a comprehensive overview of the state of the text today.
